Non-invasive MSK ultrasound scanning of the lower limbs and knees
Lower limb and/or knee ultrasound scans are non-invasive and typically painless procedures. The cold gel that is given to the skin causes some discomfort, but this is typically the least of your worries during the procedure.
Our skilled sonographers convert sound wave echoes into finely detailed images that display your knee’s soft tissue using the most recent advances in ultrasound technology.
How much time does it take to perform a private lower leg or knee scan?
Ultrasounds of the knee or lower leg typically take 20 minutes from start to finish.
For whom is a lower limb or knee musculoskeletal scan appropriate?
An appointment for a lower leg or knee ultrasound scan at an Ultrasound Digital can be made by anybody over the age of 18.
Although not mandatory, it is recommended that you inform your GP before scheduling an ultrasound with us. Share your results with them for additional tests or necessary diagnoses; it is your responsibility to keep your GP informed.

Can I eat and drink before my scan?
Yes, you can eat or drink before your scan.
Who will perform the ultrasound?
Your scan will be done by our expert sonographers, who are accredited by the Health Professional Council, The General Medical Council, or Society of Radiographers. They also contribute to the NHS alongside their roles at Ultrasound Digital.
What do I need to wear for the scan?
We suggest dressing in loose comfortable clothing. If not, you might have to put on a robe.

Will you let me know if there are any anomalies?
Note that none of your NHS scans are replaced by our scans. Should a medical referral be necessary during your visit, we will address this with you and give you a comprehensive report to take to your GP.
If I have a scan with you, do I still need to go to the NHS?
Indeed, our services constitute an adjunct to the National Health Service (NHS).
What is the referral process like?
We recommend that every one of our clients let their doctor or other healthcare provider know that they plan to get scanned by us. When you arrive to Ultrasound Digital, we will ask you to fill out a registration form.
We will specifically ask for the details of your doctor or healthcare provider. Should the results of your scan indicate that you should get in touch with someone we advise you contact your GP or healthcare provider immediately.
