Would You Like A Growth Scan for the Third Trimester?

A growth scan also known as a positioning or well-being scan, gives you the peace of mind you need. If there are concerns about the size or growth of your unborn child, especially in cases of suspected growth limitations, or diabetes, a fetal growth scan is recommended. The evaluation includes looking and measuring the unborn baby’s amniotic fluid, a doppler study, and measurements of the baby’s head, belly girth, and the length of their thigh bone.

A pregnancy growth scan, otherwise known as a fetal growth scan, is a prenatal ultrasound examination that assesses the size and development of the unborn baby. This scan is typically performed in the later stages of pregnancy, usually during the third trimester. The objective is to monitor the baby’s growth, assess the amniotic fluid levels, examine the placenta, and check blood flow in the umbilical cord.

It is usually performed between 24 to 38 weeks of pregnancy, though clarity of 2D images may vary.

Growth scans provide valuable information for monitoring the well-being of the baby and may assist in making informed decisions about the pregnancy.

A Private Growth Scan: What Is It?

An ultrasound scan called a “private growth scan” is performed to determine the baby’s size and look for any anomalies. Usually, between weeks 18 and 20, the procedure is carried out. To estimate the baby’s size, the sonographer will take measurements of the baby’s head, abdomen, and femur (thigh bone) during the scan. Additionally, the scan can be utilized to look for any developmental anomalies in the newborn.

A Presentation Scan: What Is It?

An ultrasound scan called a presentation scan is performed to ascertain the baby’s location inside the womb. Usually, between weeks 28 and 32 of pregnancy, it is done. The sonographer will determine whether the baby is head down or breech (bottom down) during the scan. Planning for a vaginal birth or a cesarean section can be done using this knowledge.
