What can an MSK scan of the forearm or elbow identify?

A variety of illnesses can be found during a forearm and elbow scan, such as:

  • Inflammation of the tendon or tendonitis (inflammation of a tendon, usually due to overuse or injury.)
  • Racquetball players elbow ( condition caused by inflammation of the tendons on the outer side of the elbow)
  • Tendinosis  (degenerative condition of the tendon without significant inflammation often chronic)
  • Burns in the olecranon ( injuries or damage caused by exposure to heat, chemicals, electricity, or radiation affecting the bony prominence at the back of the elbow, known as the olecranon process)

Our arm ultrasound scan service can assist in determining your source of pain, swelling, and discomfort. However, in order to confirm a diagnosis, it is crucial that you discuss the results with your general practitioner.

Non-invasive ultrasound scanning of the upper arms

MSK ultrasound scans produce a detailed image of soft tissue, including muscle and fluid, by using the echoes of sound waves. This makes it possible for our sonographers to find any anomalies in your soft tissue or muscles.

The crew then applies a gel to do precise, painless, non-invasive scans using the most recent ultrasound imaging technology. As such, you may state with confidence that you won’t feel uncomfortable.

How much time does an ultrasound scan of the forearm or elbow take?

An ultrasound scan visit for the elbow or forearm usually takes no more than 20 minutes.

Who can have an elbow or forearm MSK scan?

People above the age of eighteen are eligible. We don’t need a referral from a general practitioner (GP); however, we do suggest you to let your doctor know that you want to have a private MSK ultrasound scan and to share the results with them so they can decide whether more testing is necessary. It is your duty to inform your general practitioner about the findings.
