What can be identified by an ultrasound scan of the hands or wrists?
An ultrasound examination of the hands or wrists can reveal a wide range of illnesses and diseases, such as:
- Inflammation of the tendons or tendonitis or tenosynovitis
- Rheumatism or other joint abnormalities
- Nerve Compression
- Sprains
- Cysts or swellings or fluid collections
- Carpel tunnel syndrome (see above)
While our experts will help you in diagnosis, you should discuss the results with your general practitioner for further treatment and management options.
Invasive-free MSK scanning
During an MSK scan, you don’t need to worry about experiencing any pain or discomfort because the procedure is non-invasive. Following gel application, sound wave echoes will create a finely detailed picture of soft tissue.
How long does an ultrasound scan on the hands or wrists take?
Generally, an MSK scan on the hands and wrists will not take longer than 20 minutes.
Who can have a musculoskeletal scan?
Anyone above the age of 18 is eligible.

If I have a scan with you, do I still need to go to the NHS?
Indeed, our services constitute an adjunct to the National Health Service (NHS).
What is the referral process like?
We recommend that every one of our clients let their doctor or other healthcare provider know that they plan to get scanned by us. When you arrive to Ultrasound Digital, we will ask you to fill out a registration form.
We will specifically ask for the details of your doctor or healthcare provider. Should the results of your scan indicate that you should get in touch with someone we advise you contact your GP or healthcare provider immediately.
