Ascertaning the presentation of the fetus using ultrasound scans
A presentation scan is to ascertain the position of your baby in the womb. It provides valuable information about whether your baby is in the optimal cephalic (head-down) position for a smoother and safer delivery. It is usually done in the third trimester and can exclude a breech (bottom down) presentation which might cause difficulties in vaginal birth and require a planned Caesarean section. This may occasionally be visible during a 4D or growth scan.
During this scan, the sonographer uses an ultrasound probe to examine your baby’s presentation, placental site, and heart, offering insights into the baby’s well-being in preparation for birth.
What is contained in a presentation scan?
- A report on the wellbeing assessment, prepared by hand
- A fifteen-minute appointment
- No GP referral is necessary.
- Welcome to kids, family, and friends.
- Professional and pleasant group
Is the big day approaching quickly?
Our presentation scans can help to prepare you for childbirth without any nasty surprises. Presentation scans are available starting at 37 weeks and are very helpful if there is a possibility that the baby might be breech position.
During the scan, your placental position will also be looked at, allowing you to know exactly what your body is up to in the lead-up to the big day.
Images will also be taken during your scan, and you will be able to take them home with you. The 2D photographs you obtain with this bundle might not always be as clear, because of your baby’s size at this gestational period. You may or may not receive scan photographs, as this depends on the position of your baby during the scan.
Qualified and experianced sonographers with a great deal of prenatal scanning experience do all of our scans.
The easiest way to obtain a clear image during your presentation scan is to arrive with a full bladder. If you would like more information, please give us a call.
