What is Noninvasive prostate ultrasound
Non-invasive Prostate Ultrasound is a painless imaging procedure that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the prostate gland without the need for any invasive measures. This approach allows for a comprehensive examination of the prostate’s size, shape, and internal structures, helping in the detection of nodules, tumors, or other abnormalities. Invasive-free Prostate Ultrasound is commonly used for diagnostic purposes.
How long does an ultrasound scan on the Prostate take?
What can I expect on the day of the scan?
Images are taken from different angles to get an optimal view of your prostate gland. If a suspicious area is seen, an ultrasound-guided biopsy may be needed. This involves inserting a needle into the prostate to get a small tissue sample for microscopic examination, in the laboratory. Transrectal ultrasound may cause minimal discomfort. This is more so, during a biopsy needle insertion. However, back passage wall is often insensitive to pain in the prostate region. Discomfort is low, and any added time needed for a biopsy is minimal.
Occasionally, there may be a slight blood in your sperm or urine after the biopsy. You may continue with normal activities immediately after your scan.
Who can have a Prostate scan?
Anyone above the age of 18 is eligible.
While not necessary, it is advised that you let your general practitioner (GP) know you plan to attend a private ultrasound scan and share your scan results afterwards.

Can I eat and drink before my scan?
Who will perform the ultrasound?
Trained ultrasound technologists or sonographers will perform your prostate ultrasound scan. The sonographer will apply a gel on the skin over the area being examined and use a handheld device called a transducer to capture images of the prostate gland. If a transrectal scan is needed, a probe cover and gel on top of the probe is used. These images are then interpreted by a radiologist, who is a medical doctor specialising in this area, or by the healthcare provider who requested the test.
What do I need to wear for the scan?
Please wear loose fitting clothes that can be easily removed if required. If you are unprepared, we may request you to change into a robe.
What do I need to bring to my ultrasound?
Will you let me know if there are any anomalies?
Note that none of your NHS scans are replaced by our scans. Should a medical referral be necessary during your visit, we will address this with you and give you a comprehensive report to take, for your physician or specialist.
If I have a scan with you, do I still need to go to the NHS?
Indeed, our services constitute an adjunct to the National Health Service (NHS).
What is the referral process like?
Prior to your scan, please kindly inform your GP or healthcare provider about your intention to undergo a scan with us. Upon arrival at Ultrasound Digital, you will be asked to complete a registration form, that will include your GP’s details. If your kidney, ureters, and bladder scan results suggest further communication or information sharing is necessary, it is your responsibility to provide the report to your general practitioner.
